 Trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, Africas highest peak.

Dom has run over 20 successful expeditions to the summit of Kilimanjaro and now uses this experience to select the ultimate team with an extremly high success rate with over 95% of expedition members reaching the top. This exceptional record is down to the unique blend of motivation and experience of the guides.

This iconic trek takes the Marangu route, using the newly built nice mountain huts for accomodation, giving protection from the weather, along with offering a varried landscape of jungle and wildlife. Fly from London Heathrow to Kimimanjaro airport, Tanzania, via Nairobi. Total journey time is around 10 hours, with a two hour transit time in Nairobi.

Nakara Hotel, Marangu

Nakara Hotel, Marangu: On arrival at Kilimanjaro airport, travel overland to the Nakara Hotel, on the highlands surrounding Kilimanjaro. We stay overnight here, where we attend the trek briefing, go through final arrangements for the trek and get to know the rest of the trekking party.

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut: Hiking Time: 4-6 hrs Total Distance: 12km Final Altitude: 2743m Habitat: Mountain forest/jungle. Begin the walk to the Mandara encampment. Pass through a thick rainforest zone, where there is a  high chance of rain in the afternoon and potential to see 2 different species of Monkeys. Spend the night at Mandara Forest Hut (2743m).

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut: Hiking Time: 6 hrs Total Distance: 15km 3720m Habitat: Moorland. Continue the ascent through the temperate forest zone for a short time, before reaching the heather and moorland zone at roughly 3000m. Enjoy stunning views of the mountain peaks at this altitude. Spend the night at Horombo Hut (3720m).

Acclimatisation Day- Horombo Hut (4,330m)

Acclimatisation Day - Horombo Hut: It is important to have an acclimatisation day here to allow ourselves to get used to the altitude and the thin air. We do a short walk up to Zebra rocks to help with acclimatisation. Relax

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut: Hiking Time: 6 hrs Total Distance: 15km Final Altitude: 4703m Habitat: Alpine Desert. Continue today past the final watering point, and ascend onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mwenzi. Enter the desert-like alpine zone (approximately 4000m). The saddle is an alpine desert that resembles a lunar landscape. Spend the night at Kibo Hut (4703m) with great views (no running water at Kibo Hut).

Summit Night

Summit night: You start at Midnight, hopefully with a full moon behind you, making your way up the outer crater. It can be steep in places but is always safe. You will feel tired but as a reward you reach the crater rim at Gilmans Point to see the best sunrise in world as it rises over the African plains in front of you. Another 1 and half hours along the crater rim and you reach the summit of Africa! (Uhuru Peak) From here we will descend immediately to lower camps to rest and pat each other on the back.

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Hotel: Hiking Time - 5 hrs: but it’s down hill! And it’s worth it as you can have a well deserved Kilimanjaro Beer along with your well earned certificate. On the coach for a short journey to the Hotel for comfort and showers. GALA EVENING DINNER- good food, beer/wine, speeches and stories.

Fly back to UK

Fly back to the UK from Kilimanjaro, again via Nairobi. Arrive back in the UK the following day with the experience of a lifetime under your belt and plenty of war stories!

Included: Airport pickup ( on group flight) , hotels, all food & accomodation whilst on the mountain, all transport, porters, guides, western guide, national park permits, medical hut on mountain. Pretty much everything apart from the below.

Not Included: International flights, Tanzianian Tourist Tax £185. Visa on entry £35.
